Increasingly, we are becoming aware of the dangers of smoking: cancer, heart disease, strokes, sexual dysfunction to name but a few of the dangers. And more and more it is seen as anti-social and is being outlawed in more and more public places.

Our families may also wish us to stop--one client's little daughter regularly said, "Daddy, I wish you would stop smoking--I don't want you to die yet."

Yet, if you're a smoker, you've probably tried to give it up and found that will power just didn't work. You may have tried a number of things, but you're still smoking. Why?

Quite simply because smoking is a habit programmed into the unconscious mind (the unconscious mind runs habit programmes to make our lives easier), and when the conscious mind is in conflict with the unconscious mind, guess who wins?

The solution is simple: reprogramme the unconscious mind. How? With hypnosis.

A number of serious scientific trials have conclusively proven hypnotherapy to be the most effective way to stop smoking.

How does it work?

KICK THE HABIT!

A smoking cessation therapy session usually takes 2 hours.

After discussing hypnosis, and then inducing hypnosis, powerful suggestions are made, alongside mental imagery.

I combine the aversion approach (linking smoking to negative ideas or pictures) with a motivational approach (seeing oneself and feeling like a healthy non smoker) and explain to the unconscious mind in detail why you should stop smoking.

The unconscious mind then re-evaluates the habit and replaces the habit with a new good one (such as a sense of pride, or just feeling good about yourself).

The amazing thing is that most people who stop smoking after the session do not even think about cigarettes afterwards; they do not experience the usual withdrawal symptoms.

The session also ensures that one bad habit is not replaced with another bad habit (e.g. smoking for eating).

My success rate is high, and most people only need one 2 hour session!

In some cases, where a client is using smoking to cover up other emotional problems, several sessions may be necessary, or I may advise hypno-analysis first of all.

My Smoking Cessation therapy has a high success rate (I estimate it to be about 80%).

I do not give a guarantee as success is a team effort. At the beginning of the session I assess whether the one session approach is likely to be successful and if not discuss a multi sessioned approach with you.

The one time approach which works with most people takes around 2 hours and costs €150.00. This compares well with some therapists and approaches who are charging from €300 upwards for you to listen to a tape recording!

Some years ago The New Scientist reported the results of a major Smoking Cessation Trial investigating numerous methods. Hypnotherapy was by far the best way to stop smoking.
